Why own NPI?
Northland Power Income Fund is a Canadian open-ended income trust that owns equity in a number of power generation facilities. The Fund’s trust units and convertible debentures trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbols NPI.UN and NPI.DB respectively. Both are qualified investments for RRSPs and DPSPs under the Canadian Income Tax Act.
The Fund invests primarily in facilities developed and built by Northland Power. To ensure revenue stability, sales of electricity and steam generated by the facilities are made under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with creditworthy customers. Long-term contracts assure the supply and price of natural gas, which is the Fund’s largest cost.
