Partner with Northland

Northland Power has long experience in joint ventures on power projects. Northland is a fair and open partner with deep engineering expertise and the financial know-how to successfully attract both construction and permanent financing.

One important difference between Northland Power and many other developers is that we own the projects we build. As a result we use the best available technology and design and build to the highest standards for maximum economic life.

Northland works with partners in all four focus areas: thermal, wind, solar and water.

  • Thermal power JV partners are usually large steam off-takers, such as manufacturing plants and paper mills or communities with district heating opportunities. Cogenerating electricity and steam using natural-gas-fired turbines is an efficient way of producing both commodities and offers the added benefit of low greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Wind power partners can be private or public landowners with suitable properties. Wind power development is based on long-term studies to ensure available wind will be sufficient to make the project viable. Northland has operating wind farms in the Gaspé region of Quebec and in Europe and is developing additional capacity.
  • Solar power development is active in Ontario as a result of the province’s FIT Program. Northland is leasing land and rooftops across the province for solar power installations. Recently, we agreed with Loblaw to install rooftop solar on four of the company’s Ontario stores. To learn more about who to choose to lease land or rooftops for solar, click here.
  • Water power projects avoid large structures such as dams in favour of newer, less invasive technologies. Typical Northland partners are First Nations with rights to fast-flowing rivers, owners of proven technologies or individuals or owners of quarries or similar structures suitable for pumped-storage power.

Northland is also especially interested in talking with experienced power industry entrepreneurs who have a project development opportunity but require additional technological support and capital to realize their project’s full potential.
